ROAD BOARDS.

MANDEYILLE AND RANGIORA.

A meeting of this Board was held on Friday, all the members being present except Mr Hinge. Tenders were opened for shingling the Woodend and Rangiora road, and for a supply of metal on the Drain road and in each case the lowest was accepted. The surveyor submitted his report, which was considered. . The question of a drain from Sinclairs pump to the drain running across the road being discussed, . „„ _ It was resolved on the motion of Mr Boys, that permission be granted ; Mr Blackett voting against it. Mr Blackett then gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that a byelaw be framed which would compel people to keep their premises clear of any offensive matter.

Mr Luke Cox asked for the road leading to the Church Bush bridge to be fenced, and he was requested to make his application in writing.

The surveyor was instructed to order a scoop, to put in large pipes on the Cam road, to stop anyone taking out stumps from the road alongside the main drain without permission, to remit Austin’s and Mrs Norfolk’s rates, and to reply to Mr J. S. White’s letter concerning the approaches to the Beach road, Kaiapoi. After some further business of a routine nature, the Board adjourned till Friday, March 12th. SOUTH RAKAIA. A meeting of the South Rakaia Road Board was held on February 18th, at their offices. Present—Messrs Wason, Mackie, and Alington. An application was received from Mr W. Hole for an extension of time to March 31st, on his contract on the Rakaia and Mount Hutt road. The application was refused, but if Mr Hole used all diligence henceforth in carrying out his contract, the Board would reconsider at a future meeting the question of enforcing the penalty named in the contract. Be Acton road, it was resolved—“ That the labour gang be employed to finish the first mile and a half of this contract, the cost to be charged against the contractor, and that tenders be called for the remaining portion. The clerk was directed to apply to the Government for a map of the township, also to order 2000 feet of timber of sizes required. Mr Bolton’s application for an increase on the commission for collecting rents of immigrants’ cottages was refused. The clerk was ordered to report fully on all existing contracts at the next meeting of the Board to be held on March 18th. Accounts amounting to £5 6s 8d were passed, and the Board adjourned.
