ROAD BOARDS.
BICCABTON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, at the office, Oashel street west. Present —Messrs Hall, Nunweek, Stanley, and Grigg. /■ On the motion of Mr' Nunweek, seconded by Mr 'Stanley, Mr Hi J. Hall was unanimously re-elected chairman. Mr Hall took his seat, and thanked the m-mbers for their renewed confidence in agiin electing him to preside at their meetings. The minutes of the last meetitg were read and confirmed; The accounts of the Board for the past year were produced, and having been examined, were signed by the chairman in accordance with clause 134 of the Act. . Mr Leatham waited on the Board and asked-for payment of gravel bought from Murphy for the Fendaltown road. . The Board having considered Mr Leatbam's claim, he was informed that the decision of the Board would be communicated to him. It was ultimately .decided to allow 6d per yard for the gravelfrom Murphy's pit, A .letter was read from Mr O'Callaghan offering to maintain the Waiararapa Creek \ from M'M'ahon's bridge'to the Harewood and ; Fendaltown' central junction road, on the same terms as last year. I The Board accepted'the offer. • A letter was received from the Avon Boad j Board (in reply), stating that it would require due notice of the work intended to be done oh the boundary roads, and tht produ'eiidri'of -Vouchers. ; , The 'surveyor wfts directed to give notice ,to the .Avon Boad. Bpa'rd that 100 yards of gravel 'was required for 1 the maintenance of the boundary rdad between • sections 203 and 323, and-that tenders would be invited for it this month. . . '' A Provincial Government Gazette v/as received, dkted December 31st, containing the proclamation of the footpath on the south side of the Biccarton road. The surveyor was directed to write to the 1 Commissioner of Police, referring him to the : Gazette, and requesting that' the necessary i steps may be taken to prevent the trespass of icattle, &c. f. '-■'■■ "The following resolution was proposed by M.T Grigg and carried unabimously,':—- ', , "That in the opinion of this Board the irailwaj gates crossing the roads of the district are tod narrow, more especially thosfr 'on the Biccarton road and the'Harewood ;rdad by Papanui, and that the Government ; bjs respectfully' requested, to make- ttiem [sufficiently, wide to accommodate the increased'! traffic."". : j l The Board directed the surveyor to report on the condition of. all bridges and cnlvertß throughout the district, and to furnish estimated cost of considered unsafe for heavy traffic. ; Tenders were .received for forming and [metalling aportion of the Beserve road, and jone accepted.- '■"- < The surveyor, was-direotedl .to.give notic> ltd-the'Occupier 'of sections 117 and 199, t« jremove the fence at each end of the road .[dividing the said sections.,'
The Board considered that the present system of maintaining the boundary roads was very unsatisfactory, and. the chairman wis requested to bricg the matter forward at the Cdhference of Bond Hoard Chairmen. The surveyor was directed to invite tendfr? by next Board day for supplying metal for the maintenance of the maiu roads, in ac cordance with his report; also for remetalling the ITendaltown and Papanui Junction road. The surveyor applied for leave of absence for one week, which was granted. Mr H. Nunweek was unanimously elected treasurer to the Board, in place of Mr Inwood (retired), and the clerk was directed to notify the same to the manager of the bank. The monthly report was read and approved, and after passing accounts for work done, the Board adjourned until Saturday, the 6th M arch.
