Mr H. K. Alport reports having held a sale of sheep ««d cattle at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show Grounds/ Head of. the Bay, Akaroa, on Wednesday, December 30th, on account of Mrfi. Shad bolt, Mr joliuwu, ana uOjv.o 'n.«entries comprised 3J, head of cattle, which sold as foUow*:—lO two to.three-year-old ordinary quality store steers, £5 per head; 18 head store and dairy cows and heifers, £3 178 6d to £7 10s ; 2 eighteen months heifers, £3 10s; 2 fat cows, £7 5a and £9; 2 fat cows withdrawn at £6 15s and £9: 300 superior half-bred lambs, ewes, and wethers, in equal proportion, withdrawn for 10s each- 0 draught, lu'lit harness, and saddle horses were offered, but did not realise owners’ limits. Sales to the extent of 80 head of good quality fat and store cattle, expected to be offered at the auction; were sold privately at from 20s to 30s under the prices obtained for similar cattle at the auction sale, showing the folly of .private deals.. Adding the 3* and •80 head to those sold on Monday, the 28th December, at Mr Houghton’s, Pigeon Bay, shows a total of upwards of 150 head of excellent quality cattle delivered last week from the Peninsula to the Flatus.

Bakers’ lots are quoted at £l2 15s, bags returned, but the same amount of irregularity In regard to millers’ prices for such lots still exists. Prtme old wheat is wanted, and sales could readily be made at 6s 9d to 6s 9Jd; new comes forward ▼«ry slowly, and can scarcely yet be quoted. We bare received our Californian circulars to 6th November, but any news now to hand has been anticipated by tbe telegraphic advices published last week. Wheat was improving, and good shipping parcels realised 1..W,d0l to 1.60d0l per 1001 b. I lour ranged from 4.12id0l to 4.62}d0l in half and quarter sacks. Oat« realised from l.asdol to l.eodol. Malting barley was quoted at 1.45d01, and feeding qualities were selling at 1.12id0l to l.sodol. In our own market we have to notice the quittance of tbe entire cargo of oatsper Aristos, from California. 12,260 sacks, comprising 33,000 bushels, were cleared off at 4s 84d to 6s or an average of about 4s lOd.to 4s 10id, a very satisfactory sale, considering the quality. Maize Is Improving in value. Holders ask 6s lOd now, and we do not bear qf any sellers under. Malt continues: to meet with a good deal of attention, and. in addition to ordinary routine sales, we hear of 6000 bushels baring been placed at lls 4sd to lls 6d. In sugars .there' baa been less doing; 620 mats Java, faulty, realised £29a 10s. To-morrow tlieYarravlllesugarswill.be offered. Teas aie in moderate request. Ol pekoes and gunpowders, old season’s, were placed at 111(1 to' Is ojd. The damaged portion of the Voni’s cargo will be sold to-morrow. Preserved tlsh is moving off at advanced rates.
