COMMERCIAL.

ENGLISH COMMERCIAL. Messrs Dalgety, DuCroz and Co report on Ist October.— The third series of wool sales terminates this evening. The quantity brought forward has been— Ba]es. Of New South "Wales and Queensland 48,000 Victorian 60,100 South Australian 7,700 Tasmanian 13,700 Western Australian 1,700 New Zealand 5)0,000 Cape of Good Hope 31,100 Being a total of 261,300 Since our circular of 3rd ultimo competition has been very fully supported, and the proportion of purchases on foreign account increased. We consider present values to be generally about one penny per lb above the closing prices of the June sales, except perhaps in the case of New Zealand clips heavy in the grease, or irregular iu condition. It must be borne in mind that this comparison cannot be extended to choice Australian ilocks, as the present sales have included so very few such. Some fine Tasmanian, being scarce, sold especially well.-

It now appears evident that increased activity in the home manufacturing districts will consume existing' supplies by the time the new clip can be available, fo that we hope to witness a good demand for the February sales. What the subsequent course of prices may be will depend as much upon the total colonial production, now so quickly known by buyers, as upon the home and foreign requirements of trade in tho coming year. Unless some unlooked for disturbance should arise, consumption will doubtless continue very large. The iinal sales of this year will open on 17th November, with a very small quantity of wool from Australasia, but a fair supply from the Cape.
