SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
KAIAPOI. The ordinary meeting of this borough school committee was held on Friday evening, present—Messrs Kerr (chairman), Macfarlane, Lock, Pnshby, Johnston, Levs Willock and I? iviu, and the secretary. Letters were read — From Mr Kayuer. stating that a new master had been appointed for the Temuka school, and he would write informing the committee when lie could take charge of the Kaiapoi school. From the Board of Education, stating that the scale on which the present teachers would be paid for last quarter was, masters, £47 10s ; head mistress, £37 10s; mistress. £ls; assistant do, £l2 10s; pupil-teacher, £4, and enclosing voucher for same. From the teachers, handing in return of attendance. Mr Pashby reported having seen the persons proposed to be included in the Kaiapoi island north educational district, and who were without exception opposed thereto. It was resolved that the Board of Education be informed that the committee do not recommend the alteration of the present boundary between the Kaiapoi and Kaiapoi Island north districts. The action of the chairman in giving holidays from the 11th of December to the 11th January was approved of. It was decided to ask the Board of education to sanction the estimated cost of levelling the school site. The chairman was requested to obtain an estimate of the cost to remove the old school and convert the same into a house for a custodian, with room for accommodation of the committee ; also estimate for erection of a fence. It was resolved that the chairman, Messrs Lock, and Johnston, report on matters requiring alteration in the now building. The committee then adjourned.
