SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

KAIAPOL

The usual meeting of the borough school committee was held on Friday evening. Present: all the members. Dr Dudley, chairman, presiding. The chairman reported he had given notices to the teachers, as decided at last meeting.

Letters from the Board of Education were read, forwarding vouchers for teachers’ salaries ; sanctioning the appointment of Miss Johnston as head mistress; in reference to acceptance of a tender for school furniture ; and furnishing regulations for conducting the annual election of committee. A letter was read frem Mr F. Strouts, architect, recommending that the section around the new school should be filled up. The matter was referred to the sub-com-mittee appointed to see the levelling of the site carried out.

A sub-committee of the Eevs Willock, Bavin, and the chairman, was appointed to make temporary arrangements, and draft out a number of girls, to be placed under Miss Johnston in the new school.

The consideration of report in reference to the teaching staff for the new school was further deferred.

Thirty-one applications were received for the position of head master, the majority being from Australia. Having examined the pile of testimonials handed in, the committee decided to defer the consideration of the appointment till Friday evening next. A copy of the report to be presented at the annual meeting, was read and approved. The meeting then adjourned.
