♦ SALE OF BLOOD STOCK AT MIDDLE PARK. The last of the important series of blood Btock sales previous to Doncaater took place at Middle Park, Eltham, on July 25th, when the whole of Mr T. E. Walker's yearlings and breeding stud were brought to the hammer, together with a large draft of Mr W. Blenkiron's brood mares, and a variety of miscellaneous stock, the property of Prince Batthany, Sir T. Lennard, Mr A. Hope, and others. The attendance was smaller than at the previous sale, and of the 92 lots in the catologe only 51 changed hands, which is not eurprising, after the enormous quantity of blood stock that has already been disposed of this season. Some large prices were nevertheless realised, and the sensational feature of the sale was the competition for Seclusion (the dam of Hermit, Chanoiuesse, KebKieuse, find other winners), and her yearling filly by
Blair Athol, the latter of whom was run up to 2000 guineas, the highest price any of the family have heretofore realised ; whilst Seclusion fetched precisely the same sum (2500 guineas) as at the break-up of the original Middle Park sale two years ago. She was purchased by Mr W. Blenkiron, and returns to her old home, accompanied by Pandore, a daughter of Newminster and Caller Ou, and Penance (the dam of Fitzroy, &c.), for both of wliora, it will be s. en. high figures were paid. Another important addition to the sires at that rapidly increasing mammoth stud is Vespasian, one of the best of Newminster's sons, who fetched the highest price of the day—3ooo gs. Dutchman's Daughter, The Orphan, and Katrine did not not reach their respective reserves of 1000 gs, 750 gs, and 1000 gs, consequently did not change hands. The only other prices of any consequence amongst Mr Walker's lot were 580 gs for Juliette (a half-sister to Julius by Stock well), and 250 gs for Chance, a King Tom mare, both of which were purchased by Mr Cavaliero for the Austrian and Hungarian Breeding Association. Striking proof of what the prestige of locality will do for sales of blood stock was afforded on this occasion by the remarkably good-looking filly by Gladiateur out of Penelope Plotwell, for whom Mr Blenkiron gave 105 gs at Alexandra Park, fetching nearly four times as much at Middle Park, in accordance with the opinion to that effect we expressed at the time.
