SPORTING.

From our Australian files we learn that Calumny had arrived safely in Melbourne, and is reported to be in blooming health and condition ; if this is literally the case, she ought to give a good account of herself in some of the “short cuts” at the ensuing Melbourne meeting. Lurline and Papapa had made their appearance on the Flemington course, and done some slow work ; but we have no other mention of the New Zealand team. The first day’s racing in Sydney seems to have been, with the exception of the Derby, in ftvorof the bookmakers; and amongst other notable events we see that Mr George Hill’s blk horse Javlin administered a beating in the Spring Stakes to a field comprising the mighty Dagworth, Reprieve, Horatio and Fitz Yattendon. Dagworth and Horatio finishing respectively last, and last but one.
