POST OFFICE NOTICES.

Mails close at Chief Post Office for the following places, as under, subject to necessary alterations: — For Dcraedin, Bluff, Australia, India, China, Mediterranean Ports, Continent of Europe, United KiDgdom, per s.s. Tararua, on Saturday, August 29th, at 11 a.m. Newspapers at 10 a.m. Money, orders and registered letters, till .5 p.m. on Friday, Aug 28 th. For Dunedin direct per Phoebe, on Wednesday, August 26th, at 11.30 a.m. For Newcastle direct per barque Syren, for specially addressed letters only, on Tuesday, AugUßt 25th, at 9.30 a.m. J. J. FITZGIBBON, Chief Postmaster.

In consequence of the alteration in the time table of the Canterbury llailways. the mails for Kaiapoi, Kangiora, &3., &c, (North Road line) on and after Monday next, August 24th, will close at the chief Post-office at G. 30 a.m. TELEGRAPH NOTICE. The steamer Ota«o is expected to leave Ilokitika at five p.m. on Tuesday, the 25th inst. ielegrams for 1 lie Australian Colonies or Europe via Java cable will be received at this ollicc for transmission to Hokitika up till 2 o'clock of the 25th inst.

TELEGIIAMS FOR AUSTRALIAN COLONIES. Telegrams for any place in Victoria. South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland, will be received at this office for transmission to HoKitika, and will there be iiosted as an ordinary letter, free of postage, to the address given in the mcßsago, or will be forwarded to the nearest Telegraph Station in Victoria, and telegraphed to its destination; the Australian rates being collected from the receiver. The sender will note in the instructions on the message how he wishes his message dealt with,— whether to he <.•'.<! v. •■• a letter at the final port of departure in New Zealand or to be forwarded from there to the Telegraph Station at the port where the steamer is bound to, and to be telegraphed from thence to its linal destination. In the first case, he will write in instructions if to be treated as a letter, "To be posted ;" in the latter, if to be telegraphed on arrival in Australia, he will state iu instructions "To be telegraphed." TELEGRAMS FOR TASMANIA AND MESTERN AUSTRALIA. In the case of Telegrams for Tasmania and Western Australia, the same can only be treated as letters, and posted as such from the final port of departure in New Zealand. TELEGRAMS FOR EUROPE.
