CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday, August 22. [Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.] DRUNKENNESS. John T, Sabey, while being drunk while in charge of a horse, was fined 20s. Frank Welstead was charged, on remand, with violently assaulting Ann Lane, by striking her with a bar of iron. Dr Symcs stated that the woman was now out of danger. a statemient to the effect -befen provoked - by the cohductof the prosecutor. His Worship told the accused that, no matter how annoyed, nothing could have warranted him in using such a murderous weapon, and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
