BARQUE SYREN, FROM LONDON.

The captain of this barque reports that he left the Downs on the 15th of March last ; had fine weather to the Equator. From the Cape of Good Hope to Bass' Strait had strong wind, sometimes increasing to furious gales, and had to lay-to on several occasions. On the 21st June, a seaman, Luther Jones fell from the main-topgallant yard arm and struck on the fore brace bumkin with a dreadful crash and afterwards fell into the sea. The ship was immediately brought to, but as the weather was bad and they could see no trace of the man they did not lower a boat. On the 7th July sighted King's Island at noon. Arrived off Cape Farewell on the 24th at noon ; had light variable winds with fog and rain to the heads, which were reached on the 31st, making the passage 126 days from the Lizard. She brings a general cargo consigned to E. Bennett and Co.
