Alexander Brown, charged with incendiarism, after a week's trial has been acquitted. New Plymouth, July 19. The wreck of the Eliza Mary was sold by auction yesterday, and was bought by Mr Baker for £BSO. The coals fetched £l5O. Shs was insured in the Victoria Company for £2500. The Paterson is still in the same position. A nautical survey was held to-day. Wellington, July 19. It is proposed to form a co-operative butchering establishment in consequence of the rise in meat. At the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday James Wheeler, charged with vagrancy, stated that he had been discharged from a lunatic asylum in Otago, and that the Government of that province had paid his passage to Wellington. Nelson, July 19. Over 3500 new Colonial Bank shares have been applied for, and they are still going off freely. Timaru, July 19. Eighteen hundred shares in the Colonial Bank have been taken up. Dunedin, July 19. The new Colonial Bank has secured the services of Messrs Beal and Warren, long known in connection with the Bank of New Zealand. It is understood that Mr A. W. Morris will also join the new Bank. Dunedin, July 18. Captain Cleland, an old settler, was killed on Saturday, by his horse shying at a coach, and throwing him, and being checked by the reins, one hind foot struck him on the jaw, and the other on the chest. Death was instantaneous. Westport, July 20. On Saturday evening Mrs Carruthers, wife of the Town Clerk, committed suicide by plunging into the Buller river off Nelson street Groi'n. She had been drinking for some days. The body is not yet found.
