Wheat is firm at Gs Gd to Cs 8d for good to prime samples. Buyers are willing to operate at our quotation, but business is restricted in consequence of so few parcels being offered in the open market. •Oats meet with a fair amount of attention. We hear of the Rubicon’s shipment of Tasmanian having been taken up on private terms ; 250 bags fine feeding have also been placed at 5s 4d. Sales of sugar have been made at £32 to £34 10s, and we understand, moreover, that a large transaction is pending which is likely to be carried through. An improved demand for currants has sprung up, and sales have been made at 4Zd, while offers for large lines at a shade under have been refusad. Candles are also coming more into notice ; we hear of lid having been refused for a heavy shipment now landing. The reason for this inquiry is stated to be that a private telegram has been received, dated London, 10th iust, which states that candles and fruits are dearer, figs being specially mentioned as higher. A demand for woolpacks has been experienced, and we learn that 3s 9d was offered for a considerable shipment to arrive, without leading to business.
