Rifle Association Concert. —Owing to the inclemency of the weather this concert did not take place last evening. The date will be announced in a future advertisement. New J.P.—Mr F. E. "Wright took the necessary oaths as a Justice of the Peace, before his Honor Mr Justice Gresson, yesterday. Loyal Benevolent Lodge.—The halfyearly meeting of the above Lodge will be held on Monday evening next, at half-past seven. Colonial-made Paper. Samples of paper manufactured from flax and New Zealand grasses, have been exhibited in Duncdin, where a paper manufacturing company is about to be established. Inspector op Weights and Me> surks. —The office of the Inspector of Weight and Measures has been removed to Oxford terrace west, next to Wood, Shand and Co.'s bonded stores. The Cab Case.—The argument in this case which was set down for yesterday at the usual sitting in Chambers has been postponed owing to the great number of heavy cases now pending for argument. Concert. —It will be seen on reference to our advertising columns, that the conceit in aid of the Widow and Orphans' Fund of the A.0.F., will be repeated on Monday at the Theatre Royal. This course has been>rendered necessary, in consequence of the very large number of persons who could not gain admission on the occasion of the last perinauce,

Insurance. —"A rather important action, as bearing upon insurance law, was tried at Sydney recently," says the " Syducy Morning Herald, " before Sir James Martin and a jury of four. It was Jackson v. the Australian Insurance Company. The plaintiff was the insurer of a vessel named the Crishua, and her cargo and outfit. She had been engaged ia the bechc-le-mer trade, at Torres Straits, but on the lGth of January, 1873, was seized by H.M.S,, Basilisk, for a breach of the Kidnapping Act of 1872, in carrying native labourers not part of the crew. A libel was filed against her in the Vice-Admiralty Court at Brisbane, and, upon the suit being heard, she was condemned. The owners now sought to recover the amount named, upon the ground that the master had been guilty of barratry, in wilfully committing a breach of the Kid napping Act, and thereby rendering his vessel liable to forfeiture, the owners not having given him any instructions to carry native labourers. The jury found for the plaintiff, damages £3720." Lincoln Ploughing Match Meeting.— A public meeting was held at Sluis' Hotel on Thursday evening last, to arrange about the annual ploughing match. Mr Wm. Tod occupied the chair, and told the meeting that the first thing they had better do was to proceed to elect a general committee. On the motion of Mr R. Wright, seconded by Mr Wills, the following geutlemen were elected members of the general committee, viz :—Messrs W. Tod, A. P. O'Oallaghan. J. Wills. D. Dunn, H. White, J. Duke, Jas. Beaumont, E. Prebble, John Murray, John Overton, G. Marsh, John Mo>-shall, S. Bailey, E. W. Trent, R. M. Bovey, A. C. Knight, J. Haydon, White Bros., J. Ledley, W. Ladbrooke, J. Sharp, J. Shaw, D. M'Kenzie, E. O'Callaghan moved, and Mr Taylor seconded, " That the following gentlemen be elected to form a working committee, to choose the ground, &c. : —Messrs W. Tod, D. Dunn, J. Wills, R. Wright, and H. White." Carried. Mr Wright moved, and M" Blair seconded, " That land for the ploughing match be at once advertised for, offers to be sent in on or before Tuesday next, the 23rd instant, to Sluis' Hotel, Lincoln, and addressed to Mr W. A. Murray, hon sec ; and that the match be held on Thursday, July 2nd. Mr W. A. Murray was appointed hon sec and treasurer. It was decided to adopt last year's rules as they stood. The secretary was instructed to write to several gentlemen, requesting them to act as judges. It was arranged that the working committee meet on Tuesday next, to select the most suitable paddock offered for the match, and that the general committee meeting to take entries and arrange the prizes, should be held at the Lincoln Hotel, on Tuesday, 30th. A subscription list was opened, and a considerable sum subscribed in the room. The meeting then adjourned. COURTENAY PLOUGHING MATCH. A meeting took place at the Courtenay Hotel, on Tuesday, June lGth, for the purpose of electing a committee and preparing for the annual match. On the motion of Mr McNee, seconded by Mr Henderson, the Hon Colonel Brett took the chair. The chairman said he was pleased to find the interest taken in ploughing matehes had not fallen off in the district. Courtenay had always shown up well, and he hoped it would continue to do so. He was sorry he should not be present, as his Parliamentary duties prevented him, but they knew very well the match had his best wishes towards its success. He would now call on the hon secretary to tell them how they stood financially. The secretary (Mr L. Coutts) then read a balancesheet of last year's proceedings, by which it appeared, after paying all expenses, a balance of £0 15s lOd remained in the treasurer's hands. The meeting then proceeded to elect the following persons to serve on the committee :—Hon Colonel Brett, Captain Gorle, Messrs Coutts, Henderson, N. Kingdon, Lord, Lennox, H. J. Mathias, H. McClelland, Palmer, Robertson, and Tosswill. Messrs Coutts, Robertson, and Kingdon to form the working committee. It was then resolved that Hon Colonel Brett be chairman, H. J. Mathias vice-chairman. Mr L. Coutts on being asked to serve as secretary, said he thought it was time to retire and let some one else have a turn. The meeting after acknowledging Mr L. Coutts' sen Ices, elected Mr F. G. Stedman as secretary, and Mr A. McNec treasurer. The following resolutions were then passed :—" That the match take place on Friday, July 17th." " That the rules be the same as last year, and that the match be closed to the Courtenay road district." A subscription list was handed round the room, and the sum of £l2 14s collected. Offers of land being made by Colonel Brett, Messrs Kingdon, Lord, and Robertson, the sub-committee were requested to examine and report thereon, at a meeting of the committee to be held on Monday, June 29 th. The secretary was requested to advertise the date of match, and let the committeemen have subscription lists. After a vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting dispersed.
