That oft recurring subject tor argument in cricket circles, “bliouict proiossioual player.coaelies p.ay lor representative teams m New Zea. land cricketi'” reared its head again at a meeting ot the Management Committee or the Auckland Cricket Association last evening.
The subject was introduced by Mr. Harwood, the representative or the secondary Schools Cricket Association oil the committee, who saul that lie projiosed to test the feeling of the executive as to whether "or not Auckland s coach. A. E. Wensley, should be played in the forth coming match with Wellington. “Public feeling is stronger than many of you realise on this question,” Mr. Harwood said. He Into been on the. terrace during the Auckland —AI.C.C. game, and he had heard much exception taken to WenslcvJ an Englishman, being played against the English team. “Many arguments were put forward against playing a coach,” said Air. Harwood, “and many of them, of course, will not hold water. But there is one argument which must receive consideration—that is, that a. coaeli is brought out to coach young players, and yet one young player is precluded from playing in the Auckland ream when lip is played.” Mr. E. X. Nalder (chairman): “Gould you have had any liner example to young players than Wen-, sloy’s display during tin* Auckland-, M.C.C. match:” Mr. Harwood moved that the committee instruct the representative; selectors that, if the position arose, when the couch and another player were on ail equal fooling, preference be given to the local man.
