RIFLE CLUB ACTIVITIES. (Special to the Times.) OPOTUvI, Feb. 11. A competition for the Silver Spoon was held on Saturday aiternoon . 'there was very little wind but a varying light. Points prizes for exhibits at the recent Opotiki A. and 'P. Show were won as follows: Messrs Reid Bros. Cup for most points in horse cattle and pig classes, won by Reid Bros. Mr. R. F. Jackson’s trophy for largest winner in pig section, >S. M. Jcnhson; Messrs Walker aue Hall's trophy for the largest prize, take'r in homo industries, Mrs. Millar. OPOTIKI COUNTY COUNCIL.. At tlie monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council, Mr. J. H. Reid, chairman of the Department. of Lands and Survey, asked the Council if it would he wining lo act. Ms a Domain Board in connection with the proposed ) reserve at. Beach. The Council decided to accept the proposal . The Public Works Department. wrote staling that the Cdunoii would hi' responsible for the legislation and fencing ot the Fast Coast road.—The Council decided to secure further information before taking any action in the matter. . The Waikohu County Council wrote agreeing to pay one-third cost of repairing Motu falls bridge, and as the settlors concerned have collected half their share of the cost, the council decided to proceed with the repairs as soon as possible.
Councillors considered i\ deviation was urgently required near Kerr’s on the .Coast road, and decided to point the matter out to the Main • Highways Beard. The Department of Lands, and Survey informed the Council that it had granted a temporary lease of ]>ortion of the sand* hills near Tirohanga. and asked for the opinion of: the Council on the matter Opotiki Stock Association had protested against the lease, ia.s' the sandhills are used as stock paddocks.—The Council decided that- as “if did riot want.' another stock holding area on Jfc* hands, 1 no objection would be raised to the lease.
