When liie borough estimates for the ciUTeril year were drawn up, provision was made for Hie asphalting of 11.4 chains of footpaths, of which some 20. chains has now been completed. fn a report to the 'Borough Council meeting last evening, the .engineer .detailed the streets in which lie proposed that the remainder ol the' asphalting should be carried out. The adoption of the report was field over, but the |hnp£jnicer /was authorised to proceed with, the work, outlined in two sections of his report. The report of the engineer (Mr A. Young) was as follows: . “As indicated in a former report I now submit for the council’s approval particulars of footpaths that 1 consider should be paved with asphalt and carried out before the end of, the. {financial year. Provision was made for- footpath work-in the estimates to the extent of 5,000 square yards or 114 chains, and of this. 1276 square yards or 20 chains have been done. The remaining 85 chains 1 propose to construct in the. following localities: “Gladstone Road: Roebuck Road to' (Herbert" Road, N'side 13 chains. Roebuck Road to Dominion Road 12 chains. •
“Cohdon Street: Childers Rd. to Ivahntia St-.- West side? 14 chains. -.“Disraeli -Street: Gladstone Rd. to Childers.Rd. Reserve, West side 8 chains. •
“Grey street': Ivahntia St. to Railway, east'Side 14 chains. “Ormond. Road: Whitmore Sli. to Pox St., West side 24 chains.” After a brief • discussion, the report was • held over, > the engineer, in the 'meantime,.’ being authorised to proceed with the first and last of the works- mentioned.
