A Maori trapper was recently working near an ancient track which led into the Urewe.ra when his dog chased a rabbit- down a cliff into a cave, and could not eh mb back. The trappei, hearing tho yelps, got. into l the cate, and with great difficulty helped the animal out.
Mr 11. Hill. F.R.G.S., of Napier, and an exploring party consisting of members of the Philosophical Society. visited the cave under the trapper’s guidance. It is situated 1-3 miles from Taupo,' and HOffc. abo\e the Waikato River. The party was lowered by ropes into the cave. A most interesting feature was 1!) carvings of canoes on the walls.
