GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE’S REPORT NUMBER OF'REMEDIES SUGGESTED Press Association.) • ’WELLINGTON, Fel). 12, Far-reaching proposals for the solution iii' tlie unemployment- prob'cm in New Zealand are contained in the second sectional report of the committee appointed by the Government to inquire into the subject, according to the Minister of Labor, the Hon. \V. A. Veftch.
The Minister states that the document provides a-very important and excellent report. It shows that a great deal- of careful and responsible research has been undertaken by Die members of the committee, to'whom the thanks, not only of the G< ye,Turnout. but of the people of New Zealand are due. The report- indicates tile quantity of unemployment and the reasons for. it. and suggests a number of remedies., most ot which arc based oft entirely new principles. ‘•When the report is released iur publication*’, the Minister added, “it will bo found to lie a very interesting document and one 'which, will arouse public admiration for the men who prepared it. The committee eon listed of representatives of the employers, workers and the Government
and its members have shown a commendable spirit- of compromise and a sense of national duty outweighing any party advantages. The decisions were 'all arrived at unanimously.
