HOSPITAL BOARD
(Special To The Times). OBOTIKI, Feb. 10
The monthly meeting of the Opo. tiki Hospital Board was held, aI r. F. .1. Short, chairman, presiding. Air A. Shalloon wrote asking for further extensions to he made to his premises, which are owned by the Arthur Estate, the revenue going to the Jubilee Institute for the B iml, Air Shalloon offering an increased rate.-—The board set up a committee to go into the question.
A further letter was; sent by tlie Opotiki (Farmers’ (Union objecting to the proposed building of the maternity annexe at the hospital, the reason for the objection being that the farmers tire already overburdened with rates, considering the low returns received from butter and wool. The union contends there are not enough births in tin* district to warrant the expense of construction and maitnenance, hut that subsidies to maternity nurses will fully meet requirements.—it was resolved to reply that the representations Will /be (taken into consideration when the question arises.
The Superintendent’s monthly report stated that the patients- admitted during the month were 2-g, discharged 29, remaining 10. It was reported that a lease of lo acres of land owned by the board is terminating this month and the board intends putting the ground in order with the intention ol running cows to supply the hospital with nilk and butter.—A committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Powell and Moody was appointed with power to deal with the question of improving the land. MOTORISTS- CAMP. The motorists’ camping group • i Opotiki Borough has been greatly in demand this summer, despite ■u* bad weather, fully three times as many .motorists as last year haying made use of the ground, and many have taken advantage' of lie. iiig able to use the electric cookers. Numbers of the visitors have expressed high,appreciation of tho position of the ground and conveniences provided.
