ALLEGED FRAUDS
CHARGES OE CONSPIRACY. EIGHT BUSINESS-MEN IN COURT United Pres* Aasn. by El. Tel- Oopyrieh' (Received Fob. 10. 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY. Feb. 10. Nine men wore presented at the Central Police Court, Sydney. today, charged with conspiracy to defraud a number of wholesale warehouses as stated on December 19th. The names of the delendanfs are:— Albert Ellisdon, aged 60; Albert. Cameron. 27; Harry Roden. 39: Nathan Mandleson, 69; Benjamin Ncwberg, 30: Harry Levy. Gj ; Morris Kutner, 3S; Daniel Rogers. 39: Joseph "Wilson, 43. The case had just commenced, when Rogers was discharged, leaving eight defendants. The evidence disclosed that they carried on business under the name of Cheapleys. Ltd. ft was represented to various firms from whom the goods were obtained that Ellisdon was a man of sound financial position, which is alleged to he false; that Cheaplevs’ established branch shops in the heart of Sydney sold goods at ridiculously low prices, often under cost: that their losses for the five months were over £40.('OO, and when the company went into liouidatinn the debts aggiegated £57,000. The ease is not finished.
