GISBORNE RACING CLUB’S MEETING. 1/ItOSPECTsToR TO-DAY. Given good weather, of which i ~ert! is distinct promise, the seeonu liny ot~ the Gisburne 'Racing Club’* ... nmier meeting, to be beki at the p : ,rk to-day, should attract a very ; ,-go attendance. The course is in : xcelient order. v'erv satisfactory acceptances have bi’Cii received ami. witn first day’s i ,i - iu on which to base their judg-
’cent, followers should have a very, enjoyable day. The presence oi the Auckland contingent, Big Bertha,. V-iiito Wings, St. Ames. Little Gilt and Helium, who landed from, the Margaret W yesterday ’morning, should add greatly to the interest., The first race is timed to start at’ noon. The usual fleet of taxis ana buses will be available, from an early hour, to transport patrons to the course, and a special train will leave town for the course at 11.20 a.m., returning after the last race. Seven acceptances have been rts reived for the .opening event, Hie Juvenile Handicap, and Te Avvlia, if started, after her brilliant win oil the opening day, must commauU solid support, with Toboggan also likely to he well iu the picture. In the Tarulieru Hack Handicap, of a prospective field of 10, Autum-' ina, by virtue of her success in tin; last race on Thursday, will probably be in keen demand, with Rich Har T vest probably the Autumn mare's closest attendant at the finish. Big Bertha, hut for her rough trip from Auckland, might well have troublocj the pair mentioned. The Trial Handicap has produced fourteen acceptors. Sunglare’s convincing victory on the first day has, no doubt, made nian.v friends for the Kilboy'gelding, while Squadron', with a. good second to his credit, may be close lip. The big event of I lie day. Hie Gisborne Gold C-up Handicap, lias attracted eight acceptoi s. Singleton won this event last year. ha s since captured the Marten Cup, and haM also' been prominent among the good one’s at . Trentham.. besides scoring other successes, ;•:<> tliat.Mr. Barry’s gelding should prove a very popular choice. High Court may prove the hardest nut for the Autumn horse to crack.
Eight acceptances have been received for the Second Highweight Handicap. Despite his big impost, iiianv investors will pin their faith on Essential, with Tall Timber also obtaining support. With fifteen acceptors, the Awapttiii Hack' Handicap bears a very open appearance, fago and Master Cynic should he close up when the judge’s box is reached. The final event, the Bright Memorial. has a prospective field of eight useful runners, all of whom’, if started, should command Blimmerton, thh top weigh I- can be counted on to run a solid race', while White Wings will probably carry a gcod proportion of the investments.
