The usual method is to .give them a drink before a race. The drink contains a drug which undermines them mentally and physically.” Mr J. Bull, secretary of the league. said cases had come under his notice where sprint runners recent - ed “the needle” under the arm, and where middle-distance runners reeeiv ed “the needle” in their knees. It was decided to hold a searching investigation.
