NO MESSAGE EOR SEVEN DAYS

CONCERN FELT AT DECEPTION

ISLAND

RELIEF SHIP MAY BE SENT SOUTH

United Preßß Assn, by El. Tel. CoD.vriebt LONDON, Fob. G. A wireless message from Deception Island says:—-

“For seven days and nights we have been trying to get into touch with tbe Scoresby, but without success. We are unable to account for the mysterious silence. We cannot imagine a wireless breakdown which would keep Sir Hubert Wilkins silent so long. Wo have doubled our watches and are endeavouring to gain contact with the Scoresby, which is adrift somewhere in the vast sea of broken ice to the south.” NEW YORK, Feb. G-

The New York American to-day to-day printed a despatch to tbe Hearst newspapers stating that no word had been received from Sir Hubert Wilkins for eight days and a relief ship would be sent south if word was not received soon from the steamship William Scoresby, on hoard of which are Sir Hubert Milkins and his -personnel. United Pre3g Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright (Received Fob. 7, 3.3 p.m.) LONDON, Fell. G. A wireless operator aboard the steamer .Melville received reports from Deception Island that continuous attempts to communicate, with Wilkins had tailed. There was an idea of sending a whaler iu search of the William Scoresby. The Melville is unable to proceed except iu dire emergency, because the saiety of 100 men on whaling stations depends on her.

The last message from the William Scoresby was received eight days ago.
