J3APTISMS AT ‘THORN’S PAY. LSRITISII ISRAELITES’ QUAINT CEREMONY. (Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 0. With a girl in his arms, a man walked ashore at Thorn's Pay, a ra’ther secluded spot near Takapuna, this afternoon. It was not an exciting beach rescue; the girl bad been baptised. A number of members of the Revival Fire of Healing Mission went to Thorn’s Pay for the baptism of seventeen adherents by flic leader of the Mission, Mr. A. H. Da-llimore. One of the jvople baptised wa s a man. the others were women and girls. As a rough sea was running, and the waves vwe breaking on the beach, the baptisms were performed with some difficulty. Mr. Dallimoro holding each one down m turn as a wave rushed past, and then assisting the candidate back to the shore. The quaint service attracted considerable notice, but any impression that it was a bathing party was dispelled by the lack of colorful swimming costumes and the quiet devotional spirit. ‘We are British Israelites, but not of the long-haired type,” said Mr. Dallimore. “The rollers gav* me rather a strenuous time, as 1 had to put each one light under. We are not ashamed of our faith, hut we don’t like undue publicity, and for that reason a quiet place like Thorn’s Pay was chosen for the ceremony.”
