GALE IN BRITAIN NCW SUBSIDES. TWENTY DEAD; 2-9 INJURED. LONDON, Jan. 29. The great gale subsided to-day after a very -wild night throughout the country. The death roll totals 20 while 300 were injured. Telephone and telegraph lines are interrupted in many parts and trains are delayed. HEAVY SNOWSTORM IN THE NORTH. WIDESPREAD FLOODS IN THE SOUTH. (Received Jan. 31. 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 30.

The gale was followed bv heavy snowstorms in the north of England and Scotland, and widespread floods in the south, particularly Birmingham and Oxford. Many houses in Bath were flooded and tramways were interrupted.—A.N.Z.C.A.
