PREPARATIONS FOR DEPARTURE FOR AUCKLAND. TUG TOLA LEAVES FOR WELLINGTON The preparations of the. liner Northumberland now in the roadstead to proceed to Auckland for repairs at the Calliope dock proceeded throughout yesterday, and although it was proposed to despatch the vessel last evening it is now probable that she will not get away before Wednesday. & ’*• It is understood that the mattresses placed on the ship’s side have been moved to some extent, and that the water again started to rise in the holds but the Terawhiti’s pumps kept the level down'to below the lower hatches. ' Meantime No. 2 hold has been covered with hatches and battened down, to prepare her for the voyage to the The adjustments to the bulkheads have proved a more protracted job than was anticipated and this is what is holding the vessel up, at the present time. The tug-Toia was ordered to return to Wellington and left for the south yesterday morning. It is understood that trouble was experienced yesterday with the Terawhiti’s pump which became choked with blotting paper from the holds at times.
