GISBORNE JUBILEE.

PUBLIC APATHETIC CELEBRATIONS MAY BE DROPPED Practically no public interest is being shown in the proposed forthcoming combined celebrations -jf. the jubilees of the Gisborne Borough and Cook Cbunty. A meeting of the executive, together with the chairmen, of the various functions was called for last evening, but there were ninny absentees when the Mayor, Mr ’A iidish, opened proceedings. Much comment was made on the pronounced apathy of tlie public towards the scheme and finally Mr H. E. Maude moved and Mr U. H. OeCosta seconded the following motion: “That in view of the general apathy shown by tlie public this meeting is of opinion that no further action in the Jubilee celebrations should be taken unless a petition is received from a reasonable number of residents by the next Council meeting agreeing to push on the function in a whole-hearted manner worthy of the occasion.” The motion was carried.
