ANNETTE KELLER MAN CUP. WON BY CHAMPION, OF CHRISTCHURCH. WEBSTER. (AUCKLAND) PUTS UFASTEST TIME. AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. The annual interprovincial three miles swimming race for the Annette Kellerman Cup was decided in the Wa item at a Harbor this afternoon, T. Champion (Christchurch) winning by 6Uyds from R. Webster (Auckland), who, besides being second, returned the fastest time. Shortly after the commencement, the tide began to ebb and a northerly breeze practically died down, to leave the course calm and almost ideal for the race, which is regarded .as the New Zealand swimmers’ marathon: The starters were: Miss L. Copplestone (Canterbury) 294 min. ; W. G. Morpeth (Wellington) 27Amin; C. Plumtree (Taranaki) 181 mins - T. Champion (Canterbury) 13-Jmin; M. W. J. Stevens (Auckland), C. R. Watson (Auckland) and G. .Cate (Auckland) 11 min; R. Webster (Auckland) 71 min; A. Bolam (Canterbury) 6min: R. DeLoree (Auckland) smin; E. Bradley (Auckland) omin ; W. Ryland (Wanganui) 3’min ; C. Watson (Auckland) llmin; J. Bnvriglit (Auckland) scr. The seven competitors to finish were Champion time, lhr 31min 37 2-ssec 1: Webster (71m.) Ibr 26m 38 3-os. 2; Watson (11m) lhr 31m os 3; Morpeth lhr 48m 42 3-ps 4; Bolam (6m p lhr 29m 39 3-5 s 5; Enwright (scr) lhr 29m os 6; Deloree (sm) lhr 36in 54s 7. Champion swam strongly all the wav and won with plenty in hand. Webster is nineteen years of age, and is a well-tried distance swimmer.— P.A.
DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The final rounds of the New 1 Zealand diving championship, consisting of fhe high board events, were decided at the Mt. Eden baths to-nieht an exceptionally high standard being set by the competitors in each of the three classes.
W. Calder (Otago) retained the open title. B. Young (Auckland) being second and G. Geddes (1T.8.) third. The only other competitor was W. Thomson (Canterbury). Miss L. Hood and Afiss *P. Jones (both of Hawke’s Bay) filled first and second places in t-lie ladies’ championship, Mrs W. Thompson (Canterbury) being third. Tlie intermediate hoys’ section was won by D. Mulvihill (Auckland), D l . McKee (Hawke’s Bay) being second. Auckland is leading for the Yaldlnirst Shield with 39 points, followed by Canterbury 30pts., Otago 17, Hawke’s Bay 9, AVanganui 7, Wellington 4. . Auckland is also leading for the War Memorial Shield with 6 points, followed bv Otago 3- Wanganui 2, and Wellington and Hawke’s Bay one each.—P.A.

MELBOURNE, Jan. 27. • The 880vds. national swimming championship of Australia resulted: Takaishi (Japan) 1, Jones (West Australia) 2, Grier (Queensland)3. Won by 30yds. Time, 11.6 2-s—a Victorian record. , Takaishi took the lead at the first turn and easily maintained it through out. 220yds. national breaststroke championship : Stedman (Victoria) 1, Stevens (West Australia) 2, Hopkins (Victoria) 3.
