WATERSIDERS’ PICNIC

ENJOYABLE FUNCTION AT •PATUTAHI JDOMAIN.

The annual watersiders’ picnic, held at the picturesque Fatutani Vo main yesterday, was unanimous y voted one ofythe most enjoyable evei held under' the auspices or the Gisborne Waterside workers’ Union. The weather was ideal*, and a special train conveyed nearly 800 out to the Domain, wniie about two hundred went out by cars, well over 100 u being present during tnc afternoon, The arrangements were carried out without a lutch, duo largely to the capable work of the lion, secretary, Mr. George Thomas, who was supported by an enthusiastic body of tellow workers. The officials of the day were as follows: Judges, Messrs G. Sutton, P. Grogan, G. Gilliam, C. S'. Shandiey; stewards, Messrs. J. Berry, G‘. Luker; handicappers, Messrs A. Ansell, It. Martin, J. Scott; starters, Messrs E. Gilpin, H. O’Connor ; children’s race, Messrs W. Martens, J. Ahlin, A. Ituss, W. MeGalium; ground stewards, Messrs P. Norton, S. Hanna, F. Stanley; in® charge of refreshment stall: Messrs E. Coitsins, J. Cousins, H. Thompson, A. Stewart, A. Hyatt, w. Franks; chairman, Mr J. Ahlin j lion, secretary, Mr G. Thomas.

The creche children were the guests of the Union, at the picnic, and needless to say, enjoyed themselves wholeheartedly. During the afternoon a special girls’ race was contested for prizes presented by Mr. J. Hoeney.

A feature was made of entertainment for the children, and a large number of races were held for the little ones.

Large fields were the order of the day', and some exciting contests were seen especially in the cycle races. The events were run olf _ with clock-like regularity, and despite the fact that the programme was a long one, it was completed in ample time.
