LUXURY TAX MAY MEAN CLOSING OF BUSINESSES. NOT ENOUGH VISITORS. PARIS, Jan. 22. There is a possibility of many business places in the Montmartre district being closed in the event of the Government not reducing the luxury tax of 38 per centum on restaurants and cabarets. The almost entire absence of for-' eign visitors has caused heavy Josses, and the proprietors have 'passed a resolution that if the- tax be not- reduced by Wednesday; their establishments will be. closed in a. fortnight as a .protest. Meantime unemployment is spreading in France.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
