The Grow.l was disappointed and frequently boohed. —U.P.A. PURDY OUTPOINTS JANSEN'. WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. Charlie Purdy (9.10-1) of Auckland, outpointed Raymond Jansen (9.11), a visiting Frenchman, at the Town Hall last night. Though the latter did. his best to mix it, Purdy showed all that elusiveness for which lie is noted. Jansen made good on his first appearance here and the crowded house thoroughly enjoyed the spirited display. The last round saw Jansen tearing in to ivin by the only way open to him —K knockout, hut Purdy boxed him splendidly and scored some beautiful lefts. Both slipped and fell, and. in the last moment Purdy punished his opponent severely. He had a comfortable margin on points and the decision in Purcly’s favor was a light one.-NP.A. . NOTES AND NEWS, It has been decided by the Wairoa B.A. to hold the tournament on Friday, March 11, and to put on a 15 3-minute round professional bout between Heeney and Fitzsimmons, foi a £4O purse, plus expenses, and also three 6-round star amateur bouts.: The Match Committee was authoiised. to arrange for the three special amateur bouts.
