FIREMEN REFUSE DUTY. POLICE! SENT OUT. WELLINGTON, Nov. I. The Slum, Savil! liner Alahe.ua. which loft tlie wharf .yesterday, had to como back owing to the firemen refusing duty. It was claimed that three-men wore absent and the vessel was undermanned. The captain anchored in tlie stream and two of the missing mi'n wore found. Another account says only one in all was alrsent. It is also stated that the chief engineer, who remonstrated with the men, was. badly knocked about. In the end the police were sent for and the. tug Tcrawhiti was sent out early lids morning to stand bv the steamer. —P.A.
