DISHONORED CHEQUES
INCIDENTS IN GAMBLING ,SALOON. AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. At the Police Court, Mr. Hunt, S.M., gave judgment for the defendant, William R, Robinson, laborer, in an action by Joint lluka 1 i:di to recover £35 on two cheques dishonored cm presentation. When the cheques were given to the plaintiff' he was proprietor of a gambling saloon subsequently raided by the police. Hazards were being played, and lie cashed the cheques for defendant as a customer.
Defendant stated in evidence Limit he lost £']o to a man named Jackson, and £25 to plaintiff. He accused Jackson of putting his liaml over the card pack and passing a card to Bnkalich. He never promised or .intended to meet the cheques.—P.A.
