MELBOURNE WHARFIES SUSPENDED.

United Press Association—Copyright. (Received Nov. 3, 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE', Nov. 3. A fresh development has cropped up in' connection with tho waterfront trouble. The committed of management of tho AVatorsido Workers’ Federation, which is the governing council for Australia;, resolved to suspend the Alclbournei branches for deciding at Saturday’s meeting not to participate in the overtime strike. The secretary of the Federation telegraphed to the branches throughout tho Oommon*wealth informing them that the policy adopted at the recent Sydney conferenoo was to he strictly adhered to. It is stated that the Melbourne branches are the only ones that have ignored the Federal body out of a tor tal of sixty-two.

The Hobart waterside workers enforced the overtime strike, but, like Sydney, only certain lines were affected. On other vessels the men continued work through the shifts.

STRIKE ON IN SYDNEY. (Received Nov. 3 7.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 3. In accordance with the decision reached! at Saturday’s meeting, no members of the 'Waterside Workers’ Federation commenced work on the wharves before eight this mo mi rig. Few vessels, however, are so far affected by this overtime strike. On all overseas boats other than the Commonwealth line, Canadian M-er-cuntile Marine, and tho Wilt-shires and tho Japanese lines work went on ..as usual, the men working righ t through from their previous shifts. The Newcastle wliarfies are adopting tactics similar to those of the Sydney men.—U.P.A.

STRIKE IN FULL SAVING IN SYDNEY. (Received Nov. 4, II a.m.) SYDNEY, Nav. 3. The watersiders have commenced their overtime strike, ceasing work on all inter-State wharves at five o’clock, although tho companies intended to work several steamers during the night. Sailing programmes will be adhered to.

A meeting of representatives of the transport group of unions adopted a resolution condemning the action of the-Melbourne watersiders in refusing to obey the decision of the Waterside Conference. It was further resolved to notify the transport workers in Melbourne that all work after 5 o’clock is against the principles of the union. The meeting also congratulated the committee of management iiv snsperYfing the Alelbourno branches.—U.P.A.

OUTLOOK GRAVE IN N.S.AV. NEWCASTLE, Nov. 3. Grave fears for the future of the coal industry in the northern districts, and the shipping activities of the port of Newcastle, have been occasioned by the decision of a meeting of Newcastle coal trimmers that from Tuesday next no overtime shall he worked and coal loading at the cranes cease at 4 p.m. It is stated in wellinformed circles that if this decision is carried into effect not only will the Northern coal industry be completely disorganised within a week, but the port practically be at a standstill. At present the cranes are worked continuously from 6 o’clock on Monday morning till lato on Saturday.—■ U.P.A.'
