A NEW EPOCH
NOVEL SYSTEM OF SAILING
United Press Association—Cooy T ’tght (Received Nov. 3. 11 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 2, The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent reports that trials of a vessel constructed by Ivrupps in their Kiel yard herald a new epoch in navigation. The vessel is propelled by wind by means of a device reducing the cost of working fifty to eighty per cent, compared with ordinary sails. Instead of" masts there will be two metal cylinders, which rotate at one hundred revolutions a minute on the m a gnus principle, yielding a driving power fifty times greater than any line sail. The inventor is Anton 1 Fletcher, who made the famous aeroplane rudder. There is a guarantee that the invention is not a hoax or fantasy as the Hamburg-America line has interested itself, in the matter. The invention was previously tested in an aerodynamic laboratory at Gottingen University.—A. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
