Before a large gathering at Auckland last night, the Mayor (Sir Janies Gunson) presented Lord Jeliicoe, un behalf of the citizens, with an illumr mated' address enclosed in a casket of native woods bearing the city’s coat of arms in gold and silver and -upported on either side by a stuffed kiwi. The ladies of Auckland, through Lady Gam son, presented Lady Jeliicoe with Goldie’s painting, “The head of a Maori Chief, Aprahama Raiai.” The Governor presented Sir J. Gun- ; son. with ins letter patent of Knighthood.—lUA. The engineers of the Counties in the Gisborne Public Works Department district met on Saturday evening to bid farewell officially to Mr. i C. E. Armstrong. ex-District Engij necr. Among those attending the ! function were Messrs. A.-Smith (Wai--1 roa), A. G. Lucas (Waikohu), J. J. Keane (Cook), while apologies for absence were received from Messrs. Gilmore (Wa.iapu) and Guthrie (Wairoa). In presenting Mr. Armstrong with a silver entree dish, Mr. Keane refer- : red to the District Engineer’s long I association with the engineers of the j various counties and of the excellent \ services he had rendered them. In reply, Mr. Armstrong expressed appreciation of the pre.ser.it and of the j sentiments that prompted the gift from the engineers of the Counties. He was overwhelmed with the presentations he had received.
