Air Marshal Sir J. Salmond has been appointed to the new position of Air Coinniajider-in-CTiief of Britain. : —A and N.Z.C.A. •: Mr Mainland L. Foster, manager of the Gisborne branch of V. illian'.s and Kettle. Ltd., returned to Gisborne on Saturday after an interesting visit to America. The annual conference cf the d'cnr Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held at Hastings this week, the : Gisborne delegates being Messrs H. D. Edwards, D. Jones and C. ' Church. Mr Cliurch was elected a member of the Few Zealand execu- , tive for tlie ensuing year. j
Amongst the visitors at the Opera House on Saturday evening were Mr Brussey, musical director of the Napier" Amateur Operatic Society and Miss MuTaney. who is to play Dolores in the coming presentation of Florodoia at Napier. The visitors, in company with Mr Theo Tresize left overland yesterday morning.
Members of the Public A\ orks Department Cilice staff assemb.ed on Saturday to bid farewell to a colleague, Mr H. S. Hills, the chief clerk, who has been transferred to a similar position at Taumarurui. in presenting Mr Hills with a handsome gold-mounted fountain pen and a gold pencil, the Resident Engineer referred to the popularity of their departing colleague and expressed regret that he was severing connection with the staff. Mr Hills suitab’.p responded. He leaves tor Tauimuunui immediately.
