The Harbor Master, Captain Carson, is now visiting W e.lmgton for tiie purpose of taking charge of the Board’s new tug Pelican. Wandering stock on Borough roads at night are becoming a nuisance, and a menace to the motoring public. The danger of this practice was il.ustrated by an accident which betel a motor* cyclist on Saturday n. ght. Thb motor qpuiist, accompanied by two passengers, was proceeding up Gladstone Road and, near Disraeli Street corner noticed a • cow wandering along the roadway only a few yards off. Swerving to avoid the animal, the machine crashed into a motor-car going in the opposite direction. The Florodora season cone.tided at the Opera House on Saturday evening when, as had been anticipated, tho commodious building was filled to overflowing. Throughout the performance went very smoothly and the large gathering proved m a most appreciative mood. At the conclusion, a scene of rare gaiety was witnessed in connection with the presentations across the footlights to the performers. The stream of floral tributes seemed to be' never ending. Mrs Widish, in particular, was simply loaded up with beautiful bouquets, together with a lovely floral basket. But the donors were really so numerous that all the performers seemed to have been remembered. When all the floral gifts had been handed up there followed a length.w procession of boxes of choclates. Nor by any moans were the male performers overlooked, even although their presents were of a more useful character, comprising, for' the part, items from the kitchen garden. During the season valuable work, unseen by the general public, was being done by the honorary soer.'ic staff, Messrs. MeLernon, ' Forster. Smnile, Hampton, R. Skeet and S. Coleman, and the make-up artists, Messrs A. Seymour and J. Lyle, .Mesdamcs Kennedy and Hamilton Irvine, and Miss Ivy Crawford, and the thanks -of both the Societv and the performers ard accorded these voluntary workers.
