FULL STEAM AHEAD!

ViTIEN AY A T KAREMO ANA WILL

BE STARTED

AS SOON AS MANGAHA O STAFF

RELEASED

WELLINGTON. Oct. 27

Deeding with the various State liv- ; dro-ulectric works, the Hon. J. G. j Contes, in his Public Works Stateincut. says: A small plant lias been installed by the Department at Wai- ! karemenua for the supply to Wniioa ; Borough Council, and in anticipation ] of our requiring power for c-onstrue-j ton purposes on the main scheme of development. This plant lias been ' leased to the Wairoa Power Beard, and has been operated by them during the year. The results have been very satisfactory in supplying the needs of the Wairoa distret. and in building up a load in that- district in anticipation of a larger development. The plant has a capacity of 700 Jew., and the maximum load reached during the year was 565 kw. The financial results considering tire plant simply as an operating-sta-I'on are not very satisfactory, but as the. plant- is leally an advance portion of the larger scheme of dev.dopincni at Waikaremoana the c-ap.tal investment is considerably' greater than would have been necessary if the j scheme had been put in purely' for its i present purpose of supplying power to i the Wailua Power Beard.

The capital outlay' is £77,148. Capita! charges (interest- and depreciation) amounted to £5.574. and the revenue to £2IOO, giving a loss of £3.474 'for the year.

Detail plans and spccjficat’ons will he prepared m anticipation of an act'vo commencement of the major scheme at this place as soon as our staff arc released from Mnr.gahao and the load on Alangahao iiid'cates that an additional source of power is necessary.
