SCHOONER DRIFTS INTO DARK,
HOPELESS REGION

OTTAWA, Oct' 26. Advices from Nome state that the Arctic lias claimed four ipore victims. The schooner Silver Wave was caught in the ice and drifted away into a dark, hopeless region, where she will never more be heard of. The Silver Wave is the fourth vessel lost beyond Behring Sea this aear. She was caught in the same field which enveloped the Kinder,sley, hutafter tha ship disappeared. The. Silver Wave had a dozen passengers, who were landed safely by Captain Hegness and the ng’neer, vho campect there all night n slusii ice. The weather next day prevented their only small boat going out to bring ashore four of the crew. Captain Hegness waited for hotter weather, which never came. The wind carried the ship, to the icefield to seaward. When she was last seen signals of distress were still flying. Captain Hegness kept- up a hopeless search for a fortnight.—A. and N.Z. C.A.
