UNPRECEDENTED PRECACTIONS
United Press Association—Copyright. (Received Oct. 25, 5 p.m.) OTTAWA, Oct. 24. Four desperadoes were hanged efr 51 out real at daybreak to-day. There were originally six but two had their sentences commutc-d to life imprisonment. Unprecedented precautions were taken owing to threatened attempts to rescue. Scores of police guarded the gaol inside and out throughout the right. The executions were carried out at dawn with electric light, casting a ghastly glare on the gallows. One of the condemned men who we - a former athlete and a detective died gamely. He left a pathetic letter to his children. 'The second whimpered but braced himself op at the Jest moment and kissed the crucifix as the noose was adjusted. The remaining two were in a state of collapse, particularly the ‘‘King of the Red Light district,” who had been in a pitiable condition during tbs last two days. He had to he carried to the scaffold.
