PLAYING WITH SUICIDE
HO AY ROAVETT MET DEATH
DOCTOR’S SUGGESTION
LONDON, Oct. 5.
At the inquest on Mr J./Q. Rovvett, a verdict of suicide while of unsound wind. was returned. Mr Rowett, who financed Shackleton’s last expedition in The Quest, was found hanging by a window cord. A doctor gave evidence that ArRowett had had financial worries, and had threatened to commit suicide, hut promised to refrain. The failure- yf •Sir John Stewart (the whisky distiller) was the primary cause of his trouble. , Mr Rowett’s doctor, u pevsor.-al friend, ' said that Mr Rowett was :t timid ’man. who was afraid of pam and discomfort, and would he unlikely to summon sufficient physical courage for suicide. He- suggested ■that *Mr Rowett- met his death through toyir.'g with the idea, of suicide, and that*while rehearsing to see how it could ho done he went fai thci thart lie had intended.
