QUESTION OF G OVER NAI ENT GRANT.
MR LYSNAR'S PERSISTENCY COAIAIENDED.
The application for a grant to erect the addition's to tho High School jrteuio I,V the Board, which on various occasions has wired to the Bailiamcnta'.'y members tor the district, has jocoited their every consideration, and that they arc pressing the Government to accede to the request is indicated by the following wires which have been sent to the Board and were dealt with at yesterday’s meeting. Under the date of Oct. 9, Mr. A\ - D. Lysnnr telegraphed: ‘'Minister of Education has informed mo Cabinet has turned down his ajiplication' for your school grant. This means notliing can be done for twelve months. I will see Prime Minister and see it he cannot get Cabinet to reverse decision under eivcumsta'nccs and will let you know later. A wire was received from Air. Jv., r>. AYillir.ms to the effect that the Afmistor had given instructions to the Public "Works- Department to prepare the wording of plans and specifications immediately. He (the Alinistor) regretted that the matter had been delayed for financial reasons but there should 1 be. no further delay.* A further message was received from Air. Lysnar stating that he had again seen the ALnister, who. stated that he had' already given instructions to have plans and specifications prepared in anticipation of Cabinet, in a few weeks’ time, authorising the work. lie bad again promised to expedite tho matter. A later wire from Air. Lysnar stated that he would see the Premier ini the morning. The plans would probably be submitted to tlio Board in a. week or so. r . . The chairman said that the Alimster had avoided the point of finance altogether, but the speaker was gratified for the work Mr. Lysr.ar bad
done. . . Air. Bright expressed the opinion that they should' record appreciation' of Air. Lysnar’s work in tlio minutes. The chairman -proposed that, a wire be sent- to Air. Lysnar expressing the Board’sJicarty thanks for bis services. Every member of the Board, he said, appreciated the persistency with which Air. Lysnar had advocated, their needs. The motion was carried unanimously.
