What is troubling- the public and the bookmakers most is what will happen - to the large amount of money already invested oil Heroic for the Melbourne Cup and Derby jf, the appeals of the parties concerned are dismissed. At the meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night the President, Air Heathcoto Williams, said he did not care to differ from the management committee, hut lie had never lavo.ured the West Indian visit. AAIATEUR- TOURNAMENT POSTPONED. At a special meeting of the Gisborne Boxing Association last evening to consider the advisibiiity of holding the amateur tournament set down for Thursday and Friday next, it was eventually decided to postpone the tourney until a later date owing to tlio possibility of insufficient entries. The "association fully appreciates the keenness shown by. tiie amateurs who have already put.in tlieir entries and have been in constant training with the idea of doing tlieir best to keep the sport before tho public, and trusts that at an early date a tournament will bo staged.

The weekly mooting of the Gisborne Swimming. Club was held at C. Adair’s shop yesterday; present: Mr. H. F. Forster (chairman), Alesdamcs. Boer and Keeney, and Messrs. C. Brown, J. Chrisp, W. Lauglarids, O. Grcig, F. Beer, J. O’Donr.qll, H. Alartin, W. Maude, and D. W. McKeague (lion. see.). It was decided that all members be cii’cularised re paymeiit of subscriptions. The secretary was instructed to write to Miss Nancy Eastwood, asking her to convene a meeting of those interested in the formation of a girls’ section of the Club, and to thank her for the interest shown in the welfare of the Club. ' ' The chairman reported that Air. O L. Ferguson had donated a cup lor surf competition on the beach. —The secretary was instructed to convey the Club’s thanks. The secretary was instructed to write the Lyalf Bay Surf Club thanking them for their report and bal-ance-sheet and asking them for pamphlets re surf work which might be of assistance to members. The weekly meeting of the comimttee of tho Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club was held last evening. Present Messrs A AY. Mason (chairman), McCoy, Swift, Roots. Hayes. Harvey, Esciuilant, Rice, Bollock. Jianke.'y, and Baltrid-go (bon. isec.). Apo’ogies wore received liorn Afessrs Hculahau and Ingram. The amateur events on the Ka:terntab i. sports programme wore approved. The chairman remarked on the great interest which country clubs are taking in amateur athletics by including so many events on tlieir programme. It was decided that a spl t-secoud stop-watch be puichasod. The programme committee reported that hoys’ events would be included in the next list ol events. In future no competitor will Ice allowed to start in any event unless wearing club costume. A recommendation that evening runs commence at 5.5 p.m. was approved. Cyclists are requested to ndo on outside of chalk line on the tiack. Offenders will bo strictly dealt with. Owing to the show and races no evening meeting wi.l be held next week.
