At the - Magistrate’s Court, Reginald Dempsey, a miner, of Glen Afton, was charged with obtaining an insta’mor.t under a pension by false pretences. Evidence was given that accused way in i crept cf a pension, which was granted conditionally on his being unemployed, but he chew an instalment while employed at Glen Afton collieries at a pound a day. The Magistrate said the cffer.ee was .serious, but as the charge was 'fie first of its kind, and having regard to accused’s health, lie adm.ttecl b in to probation for a year.—P.A.
