The remains of Leo. XIII were transferred last night privately from St. Peter’s to the Lateran Basilica, chosen by him as Ills last resting place. There ceremony was carried out in mysterious silence and in the profund darkness of the night. The sarcophagus was carried on the funeral car with four lighted torches through the darkest street of xhe city. (Leo XIII. was elected Pope in 1877 and died in 1902.)
