DECLARATION DAY.

THE GISBORNE AREANGEMENTS Wednesday t-lie 4th August, will mark the anniversary of the great- wax now in progress and, on’ that date, throughout- the British Empire resolutions will he passed undertaking to carry to n victorious end the campaign in the maintenance of those ideals of liberty and justice which axe the common and sacred cause of the Allies. The resolution has been framed by tlu> British Government and. in Gisborne, the Overseas Club is arranging for an outdoor function at the hand rotunda on the Esplanade, whore the same will be submitted. The meeting will be held whether the weather conditions are favorable or otherwise, and it is hoped that all will attend for an hour or less in the'afternoon to show by their presence their determination to carry outthe spirit- of the nation. In the absence of Air ,T. R. Kirk, president- of the Club, who will bo atPort Awanui, Air Vincent- Pyke will preside. The _ Mayor will propose the resolution, which will be seconded by Air J. AY. Bright, chairman of the Citizens’ Defence Committee, and will be supported by other prominent citizens. Members of the various local bodies will attend officially, while the band is to be asked to be present to render the National Anthem of the Allies. Many residents will look -upon, it as a duty to be present.
