NEW TARUHERU BRIDGE.
THE PETITION TO 'I lit BOROUGH COUNCIL. A MUCH-NEEDED FACILITY. The following is the text; of the petition which is to Tie presented to the Borough Council in connection with the proposed new bridge ever the Taiuhertt river at Derby Street: ••Tiie petition of the undersigned lutmblv shewed li : {[) That the pet> lionet's are enrolled upon the electors list of the Borough of Gisborne, either jii respect of the freehold or rating qualifications. (2) That we desire your honorable Council shall borrow sufficient money to construct a traffic bridge across the larulierti river at Derby .Street. (3) That we agree to pledge as security for the payment of interest and sinking fund upon fne said loan a separate rate on oiir several properties, as provided for in section 81 of the Ahuiicipal Corporations Act. 1908. i(4) That sucfi bridge could be a suspension oridge or of such construction as the Council deems expedient. (5) i hat- the ttmimproved value of the special distnM is £194,527. which at a rate of 1-otli of a penny in the £ would equal an amount of £132, which would provide interest at 5 per cent, and sinking fund at 1 per cent., plus 10 per cent on £2OOO. an amount which short-a build the propo'-ed bridge. Wellington. The boundaries for the proposed special rating area are Childers Road, Grey Street, and Cobden Street, on the town side.‘and Russell Street. Hall Street, and Alcl.ean Street, on the AV'hataupnko side. The br.dge should itrove a great convenience‘not only to school children, but- t-o light traffic, such as motor ears and bakers and butchers' carts. A side rail will be provided for the safety of pedestrians.
