Mr A. M. .Beale has promised the gift, of Hags of all our Allies and the pubic is asked to raise sufficient funds to enable a first-nate llagstaif to be erected. To this end a meeting was held, and largely attended, in the Trading Coy’s, store last evening when it was decided to go on with the matter. A dance, to eventuate on Friday ;ll)th inst., has been arranged and together with a concert, which Messrs A. Gray and L. Rood have promised to organise, a fair sum can he expected to be raised. Further contributions have been promised so that the matter is practically a settled thing. At the meeting a committee was formed of Messrs A. Tuckwell and L. Bailly are joint secretaries and it. was decided to ask the support of a committee of ladies. It was suggested that on the occasion of the first unfurling of the Hags from the masthead of the new staff an entrance fee he levied and such money to go to the National Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. The weather, which is often a most absorbing subject for conversation, has taken a decided change for the 'hotter and the old order of things prevailing along the Coast tor several weeks up to last Wednesday is now not so.
